April 27, 2008 Three Days To Go!
I'm doing my mental packing check list (the existential exercise of going through possible outfits for possible situations/experiences/occasions/locations) before actually starting to pack my bag (that happens tomorrow!). I realized that while I asked the lovely EMH to scout out the postcard situation, I failed to make the requisite blog post.
So, if you want a post card from Korea, comment :) If you think I don't have your address, email me!

April 21, 2008 the countdown is on!
Only NINE days until I leave for Korea! I am so stoked for this vacation, I can't even tell you! Even though my job isn't crazy demanding every day, it's just really nice to think about going on a trip where my only obligation is to HAVE FUN. It's been a long time since I've done that for any length of time and I'm really, really, ready!
I'm going to have about 30+ hours of travel time each way, going and coming that needs to be occupied. I will have my iPod and a battery charger, but it's not a video iPod (bastards at Apple came out with those like 2 months after my dad bought me the one I have now). I will be trying to sleep for some of that time, but I don't want to sleep too much. I'll have my trusty backpack with me, but I'd rather not have a TON of stuff in it, weighing me down as I traverse four airports. So, I need book/activity/music/etc suggestions to keep me entertained.
Oh and gReader scored a direct hit with me today! Behold The Dairi Burger! I was addicted to most of these books as a kid (SVH, the Fabulous Five books, Sleepover Friends, etc) and I just love the snarky take on the plots, characters and themes. I totally lost track of time while reading this blog today, so I thought I'd share the wealth. Enjoy!

April 6, 2008 adventures in a small town
I stopped in a used bookstore today and ended up talking with a delightful older gentleman about the inn where the bookstore is located and the mission of the volunteers who keep it staffed. I didn't end up buying any books, but it was still fun to talk to a stranger in a small town. Sometimes I forget how fun it is to talk to someone who doesn't have a motive or ill-will, but just wants to chat. Makes me think twice about moving back to a big city. But then I think a third time and I know that I'm a big city girl all the way. I'll just drive out to a small town on the weekends to talk to a proprietor of an establishment if I get the urge ;)
I feel like I haven't really been blogging enough lately. Sometimes I feel like there's nothing to say (every day I do about the same things) and the things I want to say, I can't in a public forum. Most of my friends who started blogging around the same time as I did have either deleted their blogs or just started posting very infrequently. I post much more frequently on my friends-locked LJ, where I know who is reading and I can be more free about names, details and stories. In the age of Google, I guess I'm just paranoid about what might pop up when you Google my name.
I'm not taking the blog down because I know that I still have friends and family who read it to keep up with me. And yet, you really aren't keeping up with me because I'm not posting about the things that really matter. All that to say that I get that I'm not posting very much and I'm thinking about what to do. I may start a new blog sometime soon with no connection to this one and just let this one go. We'll see.
And the upside, check out the latest reason I miss San Francisco. Cracks me up every time I think about it!
