February 28, 2008 almost Leap Day! Never Too Young for That First Pedicure I read this in the paper this morning and it just killed me. It just makes me feel old because it brings out my "kids these days..." voice which I was hoping wouldn't show up for another 20 or 30 years. My favorite part is this, however, because it illustrates why some people shouldn't be parents:
[Seven-year-old] Eleanor’s mother, Anne O'Brien, stood watching and shrugged. "What can I say?" said Ms. O’Brien, whose husband suggested the party. "She's a girly girl. I'm not quite sure how it happened. I didn't get my first manicure until I was 25."
REALLY?! You don't know how it happened? Is there some neurological disorder you are suffering from that causes you not to remember you ALLOWING your daughter to have this party and be this way? You know what little girls did when I was seven and a "girly girl?" (Okay, I wasn't but I went to their parties anyway!) We played dress up with old clothes of the mother in the basement of the birthday girl's house with fake make up (and I'm talking plastic lipstick, etc) and tiaras made of sequins and feather boas. It's called setting limits and not letting your little kid turn into a bitch before the age of 10. Okay, rant over.
The lovely and fabulous Anna found this site and it totally freaks me out. That said, this is my favorite:
Tomorrow is Leap Day and in honor of that, I challenge you to do at least one thing you've never done before. We get an extra day and I feel like that day should be used for fabulous purposes!

February 24, 2008 Bitch is the New Black!
SNL was pretty good last night. I think I have been starved for scripted programming because I actually stayed up and watched the whole thing. I was pretty amused throughout, though Tina Fey's rant (above) makes her my new hero. Now I just have to figure out how to get her to give me a job.

February 23, 2008 venturing outside
I did actually leave the house today, if for no other reason that I was too damn bored to stay inside my box of an apartment. While I enjoyed not having to go to work yesterday (yay for my awesome boss again!), I was definitely STIR CRAZY! I thought about catching a movie, but decided to wait until tomorrow when I get the matinée price. Cleaning off my car didn't take too much effort and it didn't seem too cold out there for me. So a quick trip to Bed, Bath and Beyond was all I did today, but it was something. I went off the diet wagon with an Xtra Large Brooklyn style pizza and cheesy bread from Domino's, but maybe I'll work it off tomorrow. We'll see.
My personal Best News Of The Weekend, Unless Glen and Marketa Win An Academy Award? Tina Fey is hosting Saturday Night Live, which I'm surprisingly happy to see coming back, considering that I usually don't watch it. (NBC, 11:30 PM)
Besides, I [heart] Tina Fey, so it's a win-win-win!

February 21, 2008 It's okay because I might die tomorrow
So, all day long, we've been hearing about this damn storm. Here's the latest:
...A WINTER STORM TO MOVE IN LATE TONIGHT AND LAST THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT...
SNOW IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP AFTER MIDNIGHT TONIGHT AND ACCUMULATE UP TO TWO INCHES BY DAWN. THE SNOW WILL CONTINUE DURING THE MORNING ON FRIDAY, BUT IT IS EXPECTED TO MIX WITH OR CHANGE TO SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN BY EARLY AFTERNOON AND THEN TO RAIN BY LATE AFTERNOON. PRECIPITATION MAY CHANGE BACK TO SNOW BEFORE ENDING BY DAWN SATURDAY.
So no trip to NYC for me this weekend. I guess I should have picked up my dry cleaning tonight and maybe gone to the grocery store since it seems I may be marooned here for quite some time.
My boss has already decided she's working from home tomorrow morning and going to be out in the afternoon, but no such provision was made for me or my co-workers. I guess I need to go to bed early tonight to prepare to dig out my car AGAIN in order to go to work. I'd love to have a snow day, but I'm guessing that's not in the cards.
Have I mentioned I miss California lately?

February 20, 2008 I HELLA ? OAKLAND
My day was going just okay when I came home for lunch today and found that GEORGE! had decided to make it awesome. He sent me this shirt for Valentine's day (even though it's like a week late). Isn't he just love?!
Why have they found room for (the admittedly also awesome) David Koechner (who plays Packer on The Office), but not for Rudd, a man I thought we all, as a culture, had agreed is one of our most beloved national treasures and totally adorable besides? Am I the only one who can see Rudd playing, let's say, a new CFO at Corporate making Ryan's life hell? Or maybe Pam's smarmy brother who loved Roy and therefore hates Jim? Creed's long-lost son, just as weird as his dad?
Totally agree with him coming on as Pam's brother who hates Jim. This needs to happy. I feel very strongly about this (tm Sports Guy).
After the "nostalgia part of the act," Novak told the audience that he spent his day at the Smithsonian Zoo, and was appalled when he found out why pandas are becoming extinct.
"Pandas don't mate [because] pandas don't think pandas are cute," he said. "If I were a panda, I would [screw] the shit out of a panda just so I could cuddle afterwards."
So, to quote BJ, "I love you like I love a panda!"

February 17, 2008 catching up on the gReader
One problem with Google Reader - if you don't use it for a day or two, things REALLY get stacked up. Since I'm still using it, and I don't use it for most of my everyday reading, I forget (especially on the weekends) to access it. So I had to sort through 99 posts (most of which I couldn't care less about) this morning (now afternoon) before moving on to something else.
The price is $150, so while money still won't buy you love -- it will buy you a night with Paul Rudd and unlimited amounts of alcohol. Which is pretty much the same thing.
So true!
Plus some shopping deals and steals from my various shopping blogs - but nobody cares about those ;) The deer have come out in the back yard so it must be time for me to get off my lazy ass and off to take advantage of some of those fabulous Presidents' Weekend sales at the outlet mall.

February 12, 2008 bright spots
What's funnier than the Late Night Brawl? The Behind The Scenes of the Late Night Brawl! Check it out!
Well, I woke up with a migraine and I had to call out from work. Meh!
And then when I woke up from my nap, it was snowing. And kept snowing. And kept snowing. I went out to dig out my car around 5pm and by 6:30pm, you couldn't tell that I'd done anything. It's supposed to start raining around midnight, but I don't know if that's going to be helpful or hurtful come morning. Meh!
On the upside, I decided to check my tickets for Korea and the seats for the Seattle to Japan to Korea legs of the flight have now been assigned. So I've got aisle seats for everything - whoohoo!

February 10, 2008 What's it doing at YOUR house today?
I noticed it was getting dark in my living room while I was doing my workout video, so I decided to check out what was going on outside. And I found this:
It's going even worse now, with the wind blowing snow in circles. And that noise at the end of the video is the wind rattling my windows where I'm taking the video. Better quality version here (please 'save target as'!)
Here are the confused deer in my backyard, trying to figure out what just happened ;)
"The truth is, it’s like 'West Side Story,' we all know where each other’s hangout is," said Mr. O’Brien, who sounded as if he were recovering from the beating when reached by phone on Tuesday morning. "And it’s not that hard getting in the building, even though I probably shouldn’t say that."
"They made crude NBC passes out of clay and just walked right through," he said of Mr. Colbert and Mr. Stewart, whose shows are on Comedy Central. "They said they were from the network affiliate in Ohio."
February 5, 2008 Voting isn't as fun without the 'I Voted' Sticker :(
I voted in my primary today, but it just wasn't the same without the sticker. I mean, you go to the dentist, you get a toothbrush. You vote, you get a sticker! There's just a breakdown in the social contract here and I am NOT a fan!
Have you felt the urge to buy a riding mower, even though you live in the Sunset District and have only a carpet-size patch of lawn? Or thought about buying 250 boxes of Thin Mint Girl Scout cookies, plus a spare freezer to keep them in? Or wondered what it would be like to fill up your spare room with tennis balls?
Carpe diem! This money couldn't be any riper for reckless expense if you found it on the floor of a casino bathroom. Short of actually burning your rebate - or spending it on offshore gambling - there's really no way to lose.
Hope I actually get one this time! Last time they passed something like this, I made too little money to qualify. Bastards!

February 3, 2008 DEFIANT GIANTS!
Title snagged from ESPN.com
SUCK IT, PATRIOTS!
Okay, I don't actually care about the Super Bowl, but living where I do, I am happy that the Giants won.

February 2, 2008 um, yeah, crazy week!
Okay, so I totally didn't mean to go a whole week without updating, but there you go ;) How is it February already? Just curious. Of course, that means we are that much closer to spring, but I guess that's good.
Kristin and I had a fab time in NYC last weekend. We ate entirely too much, but we just had to try as many gluten-free restaurants and snacks as possible. We wandered around in new neighborhoods (to me, anyway) and tried to ward off the cold. At one point, we ended up in a trendy, Soho salon getting pedicures - hee! Anyway, it was definitely a fun way to spend the day, even if the wind had the temps hovering around the freezing mark all day long.
The week went by all too quickly, in my opinion. My boss was on vacation in a far away destination, so no phone calls from her. Monday was a little too busy for me, but the rest of the week slowed down and I got a nice break. Of course, Monday will be coming way too soon and I'll be back to working my butt off!
Don't have any plans to watch the Super Bowl tomorrow, but I am hoping that the Giants win. I'm a little bit afraid of what might happen around here if they don't.
I slept in this morning for the first time in about a month and it felt great. Of course, now I do need to get myself going and actually be productive today. Sigh.
