January 24, 2008 hampered by technology and laziness
I was going to blog at least twice today, but I kept getting hung up. I was going to do a Thursday Thirteen list, but I could only come up with 6 really good things on my theme. I've tucked it back, but I'm afraid that once I come up with 13 things, it will be irrelevant. Ah, such is my life.

Then I was just going to post my Visual DNA, but the code was all fucked up, so no boring meme post tonight either.

However, I just caught up on Daniel Murphy's struggle to create business cards, which totally cracked me up, so it's not a total loss ;)

And of course, Mindy Kaling is always there to make sure I'm ready to max out my credit card again with her post about yoga pants. Seriously, they are totally up my alley and I've been needing new workout clothes. Seriously, I have. Stop laughing!

Kristin's coming up tomorrow for an NYC, GF, girls weekend out, which should be awesome, provided I get the apartment picked up after work before she gets here. And my dry cleaning.

January 22, 2008 The winter is long in the City...that's the way I like it
Apologies to Mr. Ben Lee, but he crazy! I never thought I'd be wishing for the temperatures to get just above freezing, but geez! I'm tired of the frigid cold. It makes me think that the fat groundhogs in my backyard have got the right idea, hiberating through this mess.

I felt so frumpy today - it was awful! But it's a lesson to never put off picking up the dry cleaning again! I ended up in a ill-fitting black cotton/linen skirt with big white flowers, a maroon long-sleeved shirt from J. Crew with a big, black cardigan over it and black tights with my imitation Mary Janes from Unlisted. Blech! I definitely did NOT want to wear a skirt today, but my only pair of washable work pants that I can wear black shoes with was in the dirty clothes. Guess I need to laundry again too!

G.P.S. for My Lost Identity - Interesting piece about identify theft and how places can speak to you, but the last paragraph really got to me:

Maybe this is what we get in life, a few great loves: loves that return us to ourselves when we need it most. And maybe some of those loves aren’t people, but places — real and adopted homes — that fill us up with light and energy and hope at moments when we feel especially tired or lost. That is the beauty of love in all its forms. We don’t know when or how it is going to save us.

Around the World in a Bad Mood - Definitely want to see this show when it comes to NYC. Anyone wanna come with?

Just another reason I should have hit Bill up for a job when I had the chance. What a hottie!

January 21, 2008 I feel it in my fingers, I feel it in my toes...
Back from the bitter cold in NYC and yes, I do still have all my fingers and toes. It was touch and go there for a while, but I survived. Perhaps I do have the stuff to make it in the Big City. We shall see.

Visit with Caryn was awesome as per usual. We had a blast in NYC and I think I'm actually starting to find my way around my favorite neighborhoods. I consulted with my book rarely and we managed to get where we needed to go without any major detours or backtracking.

We ate fantastically and did a little shopping. I restrained myself from buying this fabulous purple jacket at Reiss since it was still $270 (on sale from $540), even though I really, really wanted it. Perhaps I am a grown up after all. I splurged a little at Kiehl's, but not too much. I'm already in love with both my purchases, so I think it's money well spent.

Definitely looking forward to Kristin's visit next weekend.

January 16, 2008 first of many - travel advice
So, on my trip to Korea, I will have some very long days flying. And like any girl worth her salt, I have, of course, started thinking about what I am going to wear. Usually, when I fly, I don't care about what I look like, so I usually rock jeans and a hoodie for my trips across country.

However, since I am traveling to a couple foreign countries (I have a 2 hour layover in Japan), I thought I would make the effort to look somewhat presentable. Even though my State slacker pants seems to be best idea, I'd rather not look like a hungover sorority girl in Asia. My jeans aren't very comfortable yet, even though I'm hoping to lose enough weight around my middle to make them loose again. Not wanting to bank on that, however, I figured I should start looking for other options.

While I was waiting for Matt to come to lunch on Saturday, I happened into lucy at Fairfax Corner. I found two pairs of pants that look cute, but I didn't take the time to try them on: the Travel Trouser and the Passport Pants

I'm hesitant to spend so much money on one pair of pants, but if they work, it's worth it. I'm really just looking for a wearable, non-dry clean necessary pair (or two) of black pants to wear while traveling. Do you guys have any suggestions?

January 15, 2008 and now for something completely different
Just thought I'd change it up here a little. Hope the new design/header looks good to you. Still tweaking the colors.

Stopping off at a sidewalk cafe
Wind is playing in the trees
Kick up confetti leaves
Seems as if it's all to say

And now I'm ready to be extraordinary

January 14, 2008 cop out entry
I'm so exhausted from work and from driving yesterday that I just don't have much to say today. Plus, I should really finish my thank you notes for Christmas and get to bed at a reasonable hour.

No snow today. Weather reports on last night's news had us getting anywhere between 3-9 inches. It rained instead. I'll take it ;)

And a meme:
Ask me to take a picture of any aspect of my life that you're interested in/curious about - it can be anything from the house I live in to my favorite shoes. Leave your choice here as a comment, and I will reciprocate by taking the pictures and posting them as a blog entry. That way you get to know a little bit about my life.

January 13, 2008 well done, Mr. Sorkin
Matt and I went to see Charlie Wilson's War yesterday at the fancy theatres at Fairfax Corner. We had assigned seating and an usher! Also, we both kinda wanted to steal our seats to take home - but there was no foot rest :(

The movie was excellent! I hated Julia Roberts in her role, but everyone else was sublime. Sorkin wrote a sharp and not entirely preachy film with smart dialogue that really helped explain a portion of history with which I was not entirely familiar. Amy Adams, was of course, my favorite part of the whole thing and I loved Tom Hanks. I'd watch him read the phone book. That said, if I never have to see his bare ass again, it will be too soon.

And to top off a fabulous experience, I got to see the Leatherheads trailer on the big screen!

January 11, 2008 I've got Seoul, baby!
Well, my good mood and fortune from yesterday has carried over! I got my vacation request approved this morning and the tickets were still there when I looked. I've got roundtrip tickets to Seoul for May and I simply cannot wait!

As I was telling Kristin, I haven't been on vacation since 2003 and I haven't left the country since 1995. It's time!

KOREA, BABY!

January 10, 2008 seventy-five things at once
There are days when I think I must have adult ADD because I simply cannot focus on any one thing at a time. Today is one of those days. Well, really tonight. See, I am currently blogging, writing thank you notes for Christmas, doing laundry, packing a bag and squeeing. The squeeing has been taking up more than its share, I'm afraid, but it tends to do that.

Why squeeing? Well, it rarely needs a reason, but there happens to be one today. I made a very important breakthrough in planning my April vacation. I don't want to say anymore to avoid jinxing, but I've finally gotten to the point where I can ask my boss for vacation leave. So extra good thoughts, prayers and crossed fingers appreciated!

There's so much more I want to blog about, but I just can't have a coherent thought right now. I'm headed down the 'rents this weekend and I can't decide if I'm taking the laptop. So best option is to call/text. Love!

January 9, 2008 Mail porn!
I got the most fabulous mail today! No bills, no junk - just the two new CDs I ordered from Amazon and my February InStyle magazine! Maybe I'm shallow, but I like to think of it was unpretentious ;)

In other news, I realized that while I had posted my latest NYC photos on Facebook, I hadn't posted them here. So - enjoy!

January 8, 2008 Gal Pal Awesomeness!
Okay, so 2008 is already turning out to be super awesome and it's barely begun. I will, of course, expect this trend to continue for the rest of the year.

Yesterday, I got a fabulously, newsy email from my long-lost pal, Rebecca in San Diego. I meant to reply while all my coworkers were out at a meeting, but damn if I didn't end up with actual work to do. Hopefully, I can write back while my boss is at the other campus tomorrow.

I also emailed my college BFF Kelly yesterday and I got a reply today! Lots to reply to tomorrow ;)

Then Kristin IMed about not watching TV (I did it again today - suck it AMPTP!) and we decided it was time for her to visit :) So, we're having a girls' weekend while her husband is out of town...somewhere...not dangerous. LOL! I'll be trying all the fabulous gluten-free restaurants in Manhattan's Lower East Side, which I'm definitely looking forward to ;) I never turn down an opportunity to eat!

And then the lovely Caryn emailed to say that she IS coming up to visit on MLKJ weekend, which is super fab, since I was planning to go to the City anyway. It's definitely more fun to go with someone else!

So, I've got tons of plans with almost all my fabulous gal pals and it's awesome! Plus my boss let me go home half an hour early because it was our last spring-like day for a long time. It was the first time I'd gone home when it was daylight in MONTHS!

ETA: And I gotta give props to Ms. Hillary Clinton on her victory in New Hampshire! Rock it, girl!

January 7, 2008 Take that, AMPTP!
Last night, I came home from a long afternoon of shopping and turned on the TV. But then my mom called, so I turned it off. And when we finished our conversation - I didn't turn it back on! I spent the evening curled up on my couch, reading a book. I haven't done that in a really long time and it was really nice. Usually I have the TV on for noise, but I totally didn't miss it. So, pbbt to all those who said we wouldn't really read a book instead of watching strike replacement programming. Here's one girl who did!

Today was absolutely lovely! I walked outside at lunch without a coat! I haven't been without a coat in like three months!!! And tomorrow I may wear a skirt - if I can stomach my pasty, pasty legs ;) When I mentioned that I was now done with winter and these temperatures could continue, my coworkers just laughed. But everyone was in such a great mood today, I think winter should just be over. Who's with me?!

I surrender to the constant Taco Bell commercials tonight for dinner. It hasn't hurt me as bad as it usually does, but the night is young. I haven't had The Bell in probably a year, so it was time. I'll just have to work out extra hard this week to make up for it.

January 5, 2008 struggling to be productive
I think I'm getting sick. I hate that. Especially since I can't take any sick days yet. So, I guess spending the weekend sick is better than forcing myself into the office while sick. Woke up with massive migraine plus scratchy throat. Meds got rid of one and humidifier got rid of the other (sorta), but still. Meh.

I need to pick up my dry cleaning, but I fear they may be closed already. I guess I'll be dressing creatively on Monday. I also wanted to see if the library was open and get a library card. Part of my money saving resolution is to borrow books from the library instead of purchasing too many from B&N and Borders. We'll see how that works out.

January 1, 2008 all is right with the world again

After six months without, I got my first Jamba Juice tonight! The one in the next town over opened yesterday, but I didn't stop in until today. I think this is the longest I've gone without a Jamba since 2000. It's good to be back with my fruit smoothie again. I think 2008 is going to be a good year!
