July 28, 2007 say goodnight, not goodbye
Yesterday was my last day at UCSF (yes, now that I no longer work there, I shall use the name). I started training the temp who is taking over my job and basically just enjoyed my last day. We had a party for me with a huge spread of food, great wine and all my favorite co-workers. It was a blast! I got hugs from everyone and tons of well-wishes! We headed to a bar after loading up Cyn's car because we just weren't done partying :) I was pleasantly tipsy for most of the afternoon and evening. While I may have hated my job for most of my tenure there, I made some good friends and I will miss them dearly.

July 17, 2007 a little bit red in the face
It was quite a game yesterday. We lost. But I got to work on my tan! And by "work on my tan," I mean, get totally burned on my face, shoulders, chest, back and shins (where my jeans were rolled up). It's a good base coat for the start of summer (hey, it'll still be summer when I get to NBNJ, even if it's not summer here). I'm a little bit tender today, but the sting isn't too bad. I think it's only my third sunburn in my whole life (and the second at Pac Bell - hmmm...), so I can't complain too much.

I offer this awesome column about Barry and the Giants, including this gem:

Nobody expects Bonds to wield a gold glove, but the swing, oh my. It's so bad that the Giants are considering giving the McCovey Cove kayakers a break by flooding an area near the Giants' bullpen, bringing the boaters into the yard and letting them chase Bonds pop-ups on Barry Lagoon.
Tee hee! That makes me laugh every time I read it - and now I kinda want to kayak on Barry Lagoon ;)

Less than two weeks to go in my job - ack!

July 16, 2007 lyrics of the moment
There's just one thing that I need to say
Before I close my eyes and walk away
There's just one thing that I need to feel
Before I walk away against my will

There's just one thing that I need to hear
Before I walk away for the last time
There's just one thing that I need to see
Before I take this chance and set us free

Don't forget me
Don't regret me
Don't suspend me
Don't neglect me

The memory of this still reminds me of you
The memory of this still reminds
The memory of this still reminds me of you
And that is where you'll find me

July 14, 2007 it's gettin' hot in here!

Found this on YouTube this evening and I LOVE it! Even if you're not a fan of The Office, I think you'll find it pretty funny. The editing it sublime!

Work was good. After work was good. I'm seeing Charlotte tomorrow for the first time in six years - wow! And then Giants game on Sunday with D. It's a good weekend, baby!

July 12, 2007 today has been okay
First, a HUGE shout out to Dr J for giving me his tickets to Sunday's Giants-Dodgers game! I was totally shocked when he just handed them to me after finding out that I'm a big Giants fan - gotta love that kinda of surprise!

The rest of the day went pretty well too. I was pretty frenetic in the afternoon, trying to do about three jobs at once, but I managed. I'm really glad tomorrow is Friday though!

ETA: Is there anything more awesome than the World Series of Pop Culture? KB and I have got to find a third player for our team because we would OWN this game!

July 9, 2007 better than I
I could discuss my feelings about the Scooter Libby thing, but Jon Carroll and Mark Morford already did it so well, there's not much to add.

And now a couple photos of McCovey Cove from tonight's Home Run Derby - wish I could have been there!

wishing you the best in the future
Just finished writing my official resignation letter for my job. Even though my boss told me that I could write anything I wished in it, I decided to go for professionalism and decorum (who me?) instead of the vitriol I currently feel for the department. I did manage to shove my degree objectives in there, just as a reminder that I'm just as smart as some of the head honchos in the department, even though I currently make my living answering their phones. So perhaps, it's not the most grown-up thing I've done, but really, can you blame me?

I've been working on some of my outstanding decorating projects this weekend. I figure that it'll make decorating easier once I get to NJ if I've got things framed and ready to go. Instead of continuing to tape my postcards to the wall, I've decided to start framing them. What do you think?

And now, I must fold the laundry before it gets all wrinkly :)

July 7, 2007 "Your job's not that hard, right?"
Happy Super Lucky day! So far, it has been a regular Saturday, but I'm on the lookout for Super Lucky implications. Also best wishes to Roxy and her new husband on their wedding today :)

Work continues to be a parade of frustration, condescension and tension as we work through the first transition and into the next. Luckily, my boss will be back from her vacation on Monday, finally giving me some of the support I desperately need to keep my sanity. Sigh. Only three more weeks - scary, but awesome!

Bonds will skip Home Run Derby
To say that I'm supremely disappointed in Barry's decision would be the understatement of the season! I really can't understand the reasoning or even the crappy-ass excuse. I mean, the All-Star Game is at your HOME STADIUM in front of YOUR FANS and you can't do one freakin' nice thing for once in your life?! Just give something back to the fans who defend you to a nation who is sick of you, hates you and the race to the record?! A few splash hits would have killed you?! Really?! Just ugh. Just another terrible day to be a Giants fan.

  1. On a hot summer's day SnoCones are my favorite thing! Like I told G after purchasing one at the Giants game last weekend, SnoCones are summer in a cup!
  2. When I think of summertime fun, I think of riding my bike around the neighborhood, playing in the sprinkler and kickball games that never seemed to end.
  3. Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough is my favorite flavor of ice cream.
  4. My new favorite drink is the Orange Creme frappuccino at Starbucks. Yeah, I know Starbucks is evil (though for the life of me, I can never remember why), but it tastes just like a cremesicle! Yummy!
  5. One of my happiest summertime memories is boogie boarding at the beach on my brand new Morey Boogie board (that I still have!). Actually, any of the times are the beach are my favorite. It was just a week of non-stop fun, even when the boys and I were fighting. The only big decisions were where we were going out for dinner and what activity (putt putt at Forbes, etc) we were going to do after dinner. I'm too young to be so nostalgic for the "olden days" but it was a really great time every year.
  6. The best place to watch fireworks (or submarine races) is my dad's old office in Arlington. The building on Courthouse Road had windows that faced the Mall and had a perfect view of the DC fireworks without the heat, noise or crowds.
  7. What are you doing this weekend? Last night I was looking forward to crashing early, today my plans include being lazy for the afternoon and then being productive in the evening and Sunday, I want to do some chores, while trying to relax in preparation for the week ahead!
Now I'm off to try that a new workout DVD that Katie recommended. Yesterday's pants didn't really fit well, but they were the only ones that were pressed, so I wore them. But it's still embarrassing because I know I purchased those pants since graduation. I think I've lost two pounds since my follow up three weeks ago (where I learned I had gained ANOTHER six pounds since my physical in April), but it's still not enough for most of those pants to fit again. So I am now resorting to exercise and eating right - how grown up of me! Only 12 more pounds to go - whoohoo!

July 1, 2007 first day of the rest of your life
Beautiful Day for a Baseball Game
I'm just watching the NBC coverage of the "Concert for Diana" and I wish I could be there. It looks amazing, even with the Matt Lauer commentary and commercial breaks, which makes me think that it must be even more awesome in person. I'm not even hating Fergie right now and I kinda hate her normally. Besides, the chance to see the Princes in person - if only via the Jumbotron? Priceless! I love that Prince William had notecards to introduce Duran Duran - so cute!

I'm riding a high of two back to back Giants victories, so nothing can touch me! Yesterday's game was a bit of a nail-biter in the beginning, but we prevailed! I still maintain that some of our relief pitchers need a trip down to Fresno for a refresher course on how to throw strikes, but nobody asked me (how rude!), so I guess they will have to work on it during practice. I almost saw #751 by Barry, but it missed the edge of the park, but about a foot as it bounced off the wall in the outfield - darn! G and I had a fabulous time like always and I am now the proud owner of a Barry Zito bobblehead. Yay!
