March 25, 2007 home for a HOYA victory!
Well, my plane landed in DC just in time for the Hoyas to take it to OT! They schooled UNC in overtime and I'm so excited to see them go to the Final Four!
My flight was uneventful, though I was stuck in a middle seat. I do thank you for the lovely weather that we are having. Definitely makes it easier to leave CA for a few days!
I should probably get to bed since I have be up at an ungodly hour tomorrow morning to drive to Jersey. Goodnight!

March 24, 2007 packing. again. for the last time.
I'm taking the big purple suitcase this time, since I'll be gone for a week. It's starting to fill up quickly though. I've never really mastered the whole "packing light" concept. I think that's just for people with limited imaginations. I don't pack for just known appointments and scenarios, but for the ones that might happen as well. Because you just never know.
It's been slightly crazy at work, so I'm happy to have next week off. Of course, I'm going from one kind of crazy to another, but a break is always nice. Besides, it has to be better than last year. Right? Fingers crossed.
I look forward to seeing those of you who I've made plans with. If we haven't made plans, email or text me. I do still have some free time towards the end of the week since my Maryland appointments are all on Thursday.

March 16, 2007 LOL in the AM for VCU
I've been following the Post chat about March madness this morning and everyone is pretty giddy about the VCU win over Duke, if for no other reason than it was a highlight during a rather mundane first day of the tourney. But it seems like everyone has gotten a little punchdrunk during the chat and the host has been posting gems like this: Hopefully they show up today. Pretty dull first day, no? If not for the Great Eric Maynor, it would barely feel like March. If the United State really wants to find Osama bin Laden, just give The Great Eric Maynor a flashlight, an M-16, about $10,000 in cash and wait one week. Job done. Dude is McGuyver in high tops.
and Both, but VCU is a great team. If Eric Maynor landed on the Lost island, he would have them off in 48 hours -- only 24 more hours than it would take Jack Bauer.
and of course Good thing Eric Maynor was there. Did you know Eric Maynor once won a one-on-one basketball game against Canada? The whole country.
But my favorite of all is this one: After the game last night, Eric Maynor met Chuck Norris in a bar. Chuck couldn't keep up with him when they started shooting straight whiskey, then Norris challenged him to a kick boxing match. Guess who won? Maynor. And then Maynor saves a cat from a burning oak tree this morning. True story.
You can't go wrong with the Chuck Norris joke.

March 15, 2007 Enjoy the games on television, DUKE!
I got home from work today, just in time to watch the awesome-tastic VCU Rams stick it to Duke! I can't explain my hatred of Duke - I just know that I hate them. Maybe it's because they are cocky. Maybe it's because they have been riding their name and not their talent and skills. Maybe I just hate their blue jerseys. Maybe it's because they have always thought they are God's gift to basketball. Maybe it's because the stupid announcers love them and say things like "well, I'm just not sure it's the same tournament without Duke." Maybe it's all of those things. I just know that I hate them and I was screaming at the television for them to lose.
And there is seriously nothing better than watching SmugBoy Mike Krzyzewski walk back to the locker room in defeat. Duke hadn't lost a first round game since 1996, so this would be a big deal anyway. But having their loss handed to them by VCU, a family team for me, just made it all that much sweeter. I've got my VCU Rams t-shirt on and I'm screaming extra loud for the boys from downtown Richmond tonight! Kick some ass!
My bracket isn't holding up very well (either version), but this just makes up for that totally!

March 5, 2007 knitting and laundry
Yep, that's what I've been doing this weekend. It's the first weekend I've had to myself in about 3 weeks, so I had to a lot of catch up on. I didn't get the apartment cleaned, but I did run some errands. So, all in all, I count this as a successful and productive weekend. Plus, the laundry is done before Desperate Housewives. Yay!
I thought I'd share my few photos of my trip to Colorado, since those are the only ones I've gotten uploaded to Flickr at this point. Maybe next weekend I'll find the time to get the rest uploaded.
All of these were taken on Saturday when Kris, Anna and I ran around the city and explored. There was a lot that went on during Thursday and Friday, but I never thought take out my camera. Go figure.
At the Celestial Seasonings factory, there are prairie dogs that live in the plains on the driveway in. They are kinda hard to see in these thumbnails, but they are there ;)
After Kris and I posed in the photo at the factory (featured at the post below), Anna took us to campus so she could practice and we could play tourist. Below you'll see Folsom Field (where the mighty Buffs play), Ketchum and the Library with the mountains in the back and a better view of Ketchum (the building that houses the ps department). Sorry about the glare from the sun - though it was a nice problem to have considering the weather that was predicted for that day (snow showers!).
We met up with Anna after that and headed up to see the mountains. It was a bit chilly up there, but the view was totally worth it!
It was a fun trip and I'm looking forward to my next grad school trips just as much ;)

March 2, 2007 welcome to March!
So, it's been a while - my bad! And sorry I didn't update the MoBlog while I was gone. I totally spaced on that one. I do have photos to post eventually.
I had a fab time on my vacays and I'll get around to posting about them at some point this weekend. The photo at the left is me and my pal Kris at the Celestial Seasonings factory with the Sleepytime Bear. I just had to have a photo, so I made her be in it too ;) It was great to meet someone that I could hang out with while I was at CU and she's an Americanist too. Whoohooo!
Going back to work after being off for a week has been a bit of challenge. I am so glad tomorrow is Friday because I don't think I could make it a whole week! Sad, but true. I'm just really tired all day long. I think I needed a vacation from my vacations :)
I've been accepted to another grad school and I am planning an East Coast grad school swing for the end of the month. So perhaps I will see some of you (if you come to church!).
Man, I'm old. I've got to get to bed. Sigh.
