October 31, 2006 I'm the Halloween Grinch
I just don't get Halloween. Maybe it's because I'm picky about candy. Maybe it's because I could never figure out a good costume. Or maybe it's because I never got over my dad making be a red crayon when I was 5 because some lady in his office made the costume even though I really wanted to be a fairy princess. Whatever.

The day started with me sharing an elevator with a guy with a tail. I saw a Snow White in the hallway. Later, I saw the witch from Snow White in the courtyard, which made me wonder if there had been a rumble at the campus picnic. Now, that's something I would have liked to have seen. I'd like to believe all the costumed people worked in the pedes ward, but I'm pretty sure that's not true. Luckily, saner heads prevailed in my corner of the university and everyone dressed like grown ups.

Even though it's early, it's been dark for hours (since I left work), so I'm heading to bed. Here's hoping for a fabulous November!

October 30, 2006 standard time sucks!
I couldn't fall asleep last night and this morning that "extra hour" didn't help at all. It was lighter when I left than it has been, but the sun wasn't out. The sun didn't come out at work at all today and it was almost pitch black when I left work. And it's only going to get worse as we approach the holidays. Sigh.

October 28, 2006 Congrats to my boy!
Eckstein wins World Series MVP award

I didn't really pay attention to the World Series once the Giants weren't going to the post season (and those commercials about being a fan of baseball above a team didn't sway me), but I was rooting for the Cards passively. My favorite individual player moved out there the year that I moved from LA (coincidence? hmm...) and last night he not only won his SECOND World Series ring, but also got the MVP award! Go David, you're awesome!

sick days suck
My headache and general "I've been hit by a truck" feeling is just now going away, in time for me to go to bed and hope that tomorrow is a better day.

:
  1. The scariest movie I've ever seen is Scream because I don't watch scary movies. They freak the hell out of me and I don't have any need for that.

  2. "Who Knew" by Pink (just the chorus really) is stuck in my head.

  3. If I had a superpower, it would be flying, so that I could sleep in and still get to work in like 30 seconds.

  4. The last blog I commented on was someone on LJ probably since I haven't commented on blogs for a few days.

  5. The last person to comment on my blog was Caryn.

  6. Whatcha doin' this fine weekend? Hopefully feeling better so that I can go to the bank, pay bills, pick up the dry cleaning, study for the GRE, take another practice test, run more errands and clean up around here.

October 27, 2006 teach me to whine on a Tuesday
Yesterday was the worst day I've had in recent memory. Email if you want details. TGTIF.

October 24, 2006 crazy week and it's only Tuesday
Whew! I feel like I've lived a whole week already and it's only Tuesday night. Tomorrow is going to be super long since I'm driving to work, working all day, going to the grad fair and then off to Chevy's for the PSSA fundraiser. And our visiting prof is arriving tomorrow, so there's lots to do there as well. Never mind trying to relearn high school math for the GRE during my lunch break. Anyone want to switch lives? No? Didn't think so.

October 22, 2006 27 shopping days until my birthday...
I watched Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy today and I finally get all the funny stuff from last summer's internship. And a few other jokes from friends at school. Who knew that movie was the key to so much wisdom? Not being a guy, I didn't love as much as all the guys I know who did, but it still made me laugh out loud quite a bit. It was definitely a welcome break from the GRE math drills I worked on for most of the afternoon.

I've run across a few things that are totally cute and when I get some disposable income again, I'm totally buying. Like how cute is this tote bag from Red Envelope?
I'm not sure what photos I'd put in there, but it would definitely make me feel more professional than I do now, carrying my backpack back and forth to work everyday.

And I really hope that one day I can afford a print of this All Over Coffee by Paul Madonna. Actually, there are about 10 that I would love prints of, but that one's my favorite because it's so true. If for no other reason than I moved to California five years ago to work in television and even though that didn't work out for me, I'm so glad I moved to the West Coast.

Oh, I just love this site: See Jane Work
Everything is totally cute and right up my alley! I mean, who doesn't want Kate Spade office supplies and accessories? And you *know* I need this:

The lovely Katia turned me on to PhD some time ago, but now that it's about to become my life (knock on wood), the comic strips have a new meaning. And that's why I definitely want to get this as soon as I get in:
Or maybe this one:
Or maybe both! You can never have too many t-shirts in my experience :) They are right up there with shoes and purses!

October 21, 2006 that's my bad!
Didn't mean to go all radio silent on you. It was a crazy week. Work was busy. After work was busy. Sleeping wasn't done as much as it should have been. But I think I got a lot accomplished this week. There's still lots to do - isn't there always? - but I feel better about it now than I did before.

I'm think about getting a new cell phone. I'm way past my "New Every 2" date, so they are giving really great discounts on all the new phones. I'm leaning towards this one:
Have you guys heard anything about it? Seems like it's similar to my current phone, but better. I don't think I'm trendy enough for the Razr, even if they have a pink one now.

October 14, 2006 OMIGOSH, it's 1997 in here!

So far, I've had a productive/relaxing day, so I'm feeling a lot better than yesterday :) Major props to Kristin for my awesome Real Ones Mix Tape CDs! Is it sad that I still know all the words to all the songs, even after all this time? This mix tape is such a time capsule to this crazy, mixed up (even though we didn't know it) time in our lives and I love it. I totally flash back to the meanings behind the songs and when we first listened to them and all that went along with them. Rock on!

Oh, I totally discovered that I get SoapNet on cable and I spent much of the morning watching old 90210 reruns. Good times!

I was having the worst day...until now...
  1. I'm supersitious about a lot more than I would like to admit. Though I never really bought into the Friday the 13th until today. How wretched!

  2. The last pumpkin I decorated/carved looked like a pumpkin. I haven't really done the pumpkin carving thing in a long time since I don't really like Halloween. KB was way into when we were together and I remember cleaning up much pumpkin guts after he created his masterpieces. They really were quite awesome - I think that's what he's been doing for a living instead of designing houses ;)

  3. I'm going to dress up as myself for Halloween. I don't do Halloween. I was never any good at it when I was a kid and now that I'm old enough not to have to, I don't. I probably should do the Castro parade (if they are having it this year) just to say that I've done it, but I've never been that into it. I don't mind giving the candy, but living in apartment complexes, I've never had any trick-or-treaters.

  4. Dear Fall, you came way too early and totally eclipsed summer. I know it's only a matter of time before it starts to rain and I just didn't get my summer the way I wanted. You suck.

  5. Courteney Cox Arquette would play me in a movie about my life because why not? She's tiny like me and there isn't anyone out there who looks like me. (Can't believe I forgot to do this one last night - stupid Jenn!)

  6. It's the weekend! Woohooo! I'm gonna try to chill out after such a horrible, gut-wrenching day. There's lots of stuff to do and lots to think about, but I'm still going to try to relax and enjoy myself.
Today was awful. I was busy from start to finish and most of that time, I felt like crap. I just got stupid stuff wrong and nothing seemed to go my way.

After I left work, things got a little better. I've got the six schools that I will be applying to for grad school. I've got the things I need to work on and contingency plans if those things don't work out. I'm not exactly feeling "positive" but I don't feel worse. And my mind's been eased a bit by some of the things discussed, so hopefully I can intuit some of what was said and keep my head up.

October 13, 2006 who knew?
Almost a whole week without blogging. Sadly, not because I have a life, but because I don't and there's little to say about it.

Got a random call from another place that I applied for a job back in June yesterday. Apparently, they actually kept my resume on file and had another opening. I never really thought companies actually kept the resumes on file; I figured that was just something they said when you didn't get the job. Interesting.

I've talked to a lot of people this week that I haven't talked to in a while, most of them yesterday. Very weird - and if I haven't talked to you recently, you should really call me. But maybe wait until tomorrow because I'm going to bed as soon as I post this and you really don't want to wake me up. Just ask anyone who has - not a pretty picture.

October 8, 2006 one of these days, I'll actually do this on Friday
  • My favorite thing about autumn is is the smell. There's something about the dead leaves and the crisp breeze that just smells good. We actually have some trees with changing leaves over here in the East Bay, which is exciting for me, especially since I don't have to rake any of those leaves once they fall.

  • I'm currently reading Shape magazine. I just finished Must Love Dogs by Claire Cook, but I haven't decided what I'm going to start reading next, so I'm sticking with the mag I got in the mail today.

  • The last time I bought a purse was this summer with K at the wine & art festival by her house. It's totally cute, but one of the handles cracked and I'm afraid to use it now :(

  • I hear the lovely music from my iTunes. The street outside my window is delightfully quiet tonight, so I'm not complaining.

  • Last night, I watched some television and went to be early. I enjoy the weekend a lot more when I can go into it well-rested.

  • This weekend, I hope to get some grad school stuff done and also try to relax. I just read that you are more likely to hate your job if you aren't getting enough sleep, so I'm trying to remedy that.
I went to the eye doctor today - I love having insurance again! I get a free pair of glasses this year, but I'm having the hardest time deciding on frames. Ever since I got glasses in the fourth grade, I've hated the way I've looked in them. Styles have changed a lot since then, so I'm not likely to have the huge purple glasses that I had when I was 9, but it's still really hard to choose something I like, since I hate everything. Any suggestions greatly welcomed. I have some to think about it since they are calling me on Wednesday to let me know if the ones I picked come in a color I like. Sigh.

October 5, 2006 Fleet Week, baby!
I'm channeling an old friend this afternoon as I hear the planes flying over head. I keep getting up to look out the window when I hear them go past, but of course, once you hear, they are long gone. But I just wanna see the planes! (Extra points if you know who I'm channeling and the paraphrased TV reference I just threw in there)

Yes, it's Fleet Week here in SF because why should NY and those SATC girls have all the fun? The jets are doing their test flights today and won't be flying "for real" until tomorrow and over the weekend. I'm not sure how much Fleet Week-ing I'll actually be doing, but it's still got a really cool energy to it. And I'm all about cute boys in snazzy uniforms populating the streets for a few days :)

October 3, 2006 "Matt Is My Hero"
The Chair got on the plane this morning, so life is good at work again. He's in meetings during these two conferences, so work should be a little less stressful for my coworkers which means less stress for me as well.

Not feeling the grad school thing this week. Didn't do well on my practice GRE and feeling quite aimless in life in general. Hopefully, this funk won't last long.

Studio 60 continues to rock my world. If you aren't watching, you should be. I [heart] Aaron Sorkin!

Talked to KB and my cousin Julie today which was very cool. MS msg'd with L this morning too and got caught up. Funny how little gestures can pretty much change the course of your day.
