August 29, 2006 gotta make sandwiches
I really need to be going to make my lunch for the rest of the week and getting in bed, but I thought I'd blog really quickly. Cause really, I haven't procrastinated enough tonight. I did get my rent check in the mail, so that has to count for something, right?

I hate how my bursts of cleaning energy come late at night. About 10pm last night, I just going through piles and boxes and organizing things. I made a fair dent in the entryway piles (bedroom is still a mess), but I really should have been sleeping. Sigh. I hope to get some more cleaning done this week because I get on the plane because I know that September 15th is going to sneak up on me faster than I'd like to think.

August 27, 2006 places I went today
-bank to deposit a check
-dry cleaners to pick up and drop off clothes
-post office in Berkeley where I couldn't find any parking, so I didn't go in
-Michael's for scrapbooking stuff
-Ikea for a new rug and photo frames
-Jamba Juice for lunch
-Kohl's in Pleasant Hill for new shoes
-Hallmark for cards and assorted party stuff
-post office at SFO to finally mail that stupid package
-Kohl's in Colma for new shoes and a great new dress

I finally saw Garden State for the first time tonight. It wasn't the life-changing movie I had thought it would be, but it was good. Natalie Portman was great.

August 24, 2006 lyrics of the moment
Just close your eyes and I'll kiss you like there's no tomorrow
If I don't make your heart skip a beat then hate me
If I don't make you feel anything than it's me
I just want you to feel beautiful
For once in your life

The date for the party is set. Lunch is planned. I got to leave work early. The Giants are currently winning against the Reds. I just watched Fever Pitch on DVD and loved it. I'm having a pretty good night!

just before bed
Wednesdays are my usual late nights - I stay up to watch Project Runway which goes until 11. Except this week, I had a Giants game on Monday and too much energy on Tuesday, so this is my third night in a row of going to bed after 11pm. I can't handle it. This week needs to end and quickly, so that I can get some sleep.

During my college days, this would be around the time that I would just start my proseminar reading or be making last minute changes on a paper for Prof C. But I also wouldn't be getting up at 5:30. Even when I was TAing for Prof C, the earliest I got up was 7am when I needed to catch him before class or to prep or something. I guess I'm a full-fledged grown up. Sigh.

August 23, 2006 turns out, I *can* get ready in 20 minutes
I was so keyed up from last night's victory that I couldn't fall asleep until after midnight. I had crazy dreams and slept fitfully. Which I guess explains why, when I opened my eyes, the clock said 6:19! I'm supposed to be out of the house by 6:30ish, so this was not good. I ended up catching the same train I usually catch, so I made it, but I felt like crap all day. Even after all that though, yesterday was totally worth it. Go Giants!

August 22, 2006 Number 725, baby!!!

Work was work, even though I was freezing to death most of the day. Stupid me made the mistake of wearing a skirt and 3/4 sleeved top. I forgot it's still not "summer" here yet and our office is always cold. Pants it is from here on out!

I got to see C's new digs today, since I stopped by to pick up the Giants tickets he was kind enough to give me for tonight's game. Perhaps going to the dark side (or "seeing the light" as they call it) isn't so bad. I'll probably never get to experience that, so it was nice to see it for a few minutes.

Went to the Giants game with M and it was AWESOME! I got to see Barry Bonds hit a home run (#725!) and the Giants ended up winning, beating the Diamondbacks 5-0! After two brutal losses to the Dodgers over the weekend, the Giants (and I) needed this win badly. I loved it! I have now see them win twice this season out of seven games.

I just got home and I'll be exhausted tomorrow, but it was incredibly worth it :)

August 20, 2006 a clean start
Well, I didn't really get to leave the house today - though there may be a trip to Kohl's on the horizon - but I feel really productive.

I got my newly redone "Friends" frame hung and made my tribute to the 2006 season of the Giants and got that hung. I've cleaned up in the living room (sorta) and gotten all the dry cleaning hung back in the closet.

Laundry is going right now, so I will actually have clothes to wear to work this week. I still need to hang up my new clothes from yesterday's shopping, but that shouldn't take too long.

I hate doing "chores" on the weekend because it's my time to be me and fun things, but sometimes you just have to get it done so that the rest of the week will go smoothly. I still have make lunch for the week and some odds and ends, but for the most part I am ready for the coming week.

a brutal 2nd inning
I spent the morning, being lazy, working on this and that, but nothing of real substance. I slept in till 9am, which is actually quite a bit after my workday alarm, but it still seems way too early for a Saturday. It's nice to be lazy after getting up and still have it be before noon - I guess I can't complain too much.

I spent the afternoon at the Napa Outlet Mall. I stocked up on essentials at J Crew and Ann Taylor, so hopefully I can add some variety to my work wardrobe. I love shopping and bargain shopping is just that much better. I did my part to revitalize the NorCal economy. I think I still hear my credit cards crying :)

Tomorrow, I shall be slightly more productive, while still relaxing as much as possible. It's a tall order, but I have to make the most of my weekends. It's the only way to survive the week ahead.

August 18, 2006 "For most of my working life, I was the youngest person doing what I was doing. Then one day I woke up and I was the oldest person in every room."
So ends another week at my job. It's been a calendar month since I started and the end of my 5th week. Things have leveled off and I don't despise it every single second. My coworkers seem to love me and think that I am doing quite a bit. I don't feel the same, but hey, I guess in this case, what they think is the important thing.

I should have taken clothes to the dry cleaners, but I made the mistake of sitting on the couch when I walked in the door. I'm so exhausted by the end of the week. I don't know how people do this all their lives. The weekend just isn't long enough to recuperate. But I'll try :)

at least I didn't have to dress up like a banana & stand out on the street corner in front of campus at 7:30 this morning
Yup, life could be a lot worse ;) I finished the project I was assigned yesterday this afternoon. I needed to finish it today, but at the same time, it's just less that I have to do tomorrow. However, both A and Dr. H loved it - I am outstanding and awesome. Go me!

I have gotten positive responses from everyone I have asked for recommendations, which makes me feel really good. Of course, I have now been scared shitless about my Statement of Purpose, so there's something new to stress about. If I weren't so exhausted from my commute every day, I think I would be in much better shape.

I had dinner early tonight, when I first got home. I really should have done laundry tonight, but I really just don't have the energy. I think once Grey's is done for the night, I am too. Tomorrow's afternoon meeting is hard enough to get through when I'm not tired.

August 16, 2006 positivity
I had a really good day. A crisis was averted when our pagers came today and I got several positive response to emails I sent about grad school. Life is good.

Here's hoping tomorrow goes well too!

August 14, 2006 suddenly Monday
Well, textamerica decided to change up how they do their moblogs, so I have spent the last two days uploading all my cameraphone photos to Flickr. I can moblog with Flickr just as well without the hassle. Just an FYI.

Work was a bit frustrating with some miscommunications and misdirection, but I think I've got it all under control. And I've got another project in the works thanks to my nerd-like tendencies, which makes me happy. Twenty percent of the work week is over and I feel pretty good about that.

August 13, 2006 a raspberry margarita at my age? I dunno....
Yesterday was quite relaxing, but apparently not quite enough - or this job is killing me more than I had previously thought because if one more person told me I looked tired I was going to screa..yawn...sigh.

I slept in a bit (8:30 - which is 3 hours later than during the week), but it obviously wasn't enough to keep me awake for K's birthday extravaganza. Dinner was at Elephant Bar. We were in the backroom with a bunch of other large parties and it was like the Chuck-E-Cheese pizza room in there - every 20-30 minutes there was another birthday. We scream/sang along to every one, including K's, which was fabulous. After dinner, D and I ended up going back down to K's to have some dessert at BJ's. But by 11, I was just dragging. Around 11:20, I had to drag D out of there because I just couldn't stop yawning. I felt like crap about that - I don't want to be a grown up, who can't stay up past midnight!

I've got a facial scheduled for today, so here's hoping it's worth what I'm going to pay for it. I slept in more this morning and am now having a very lazy morning in bed on the internet. My laptop is pissing me off more and more, but I'm hoping it will hold out a few more pay periods, so I can actually afford to get a new one. *fingers crossed*

August 11, 2006 all out the window
Sometimes I start to blog in my head on the train on the way home from work, coming up with little anecdotes to amuse those of you who read this with any frequency to give you some insight into my life. I was going to talk about my "field trip" to another part of campus today and the fact that my boss just got assigned to a jury for the next three weeks. I was even thinking about ruminating on my current feelings about grad school.

Then I came home and found a message about Prop 86 on my answering machine. And all rational thought stopped - I just couldn't stop laughing. I admit, I haven't been paying a lot of attention to the November election, especially the initiatives since it's a few months away. But listening to this recorded message, I had to find out more. The recording was from the "No on 86" campaign, urging me to look for their information packet, which would be coming in the mail and register to vote.

"What is Proposition 86?" you may ask. It would impose an additional 13 cent tax per cigarette ($2.60 per pack), which would go to support healthcare. That's right - this campaign is hoping that Californians, who have successfully voted and supported virtually all smoking bans that have come up - including a recent ban on smoking on the public golf course in the City, to protect the rights of smokers and vote against a tax that would go to help our struggling state health care system. Riiiight.

Now, Californians hate taxes as a rule - more than anyone I've ever seen - but this just strikes me as hilarious. I may not have the complete grasp on state politics, despite all my time spent with Prof C, but I just cannot see this *not* passing. I'm just glad I wasn't home when the woman called - I know I would have started laughing and hung up.

August 9, 2006 meltdown on MUNI
Nope, it wasn't me this time. Some woman was FREAKING OUT when we stopped in the tunnel for like 7 minutes. Yeah, it's annoying and you can't even call anyone since you are underground, but cursing and huffing and generally being annoying doesn't help either! Ugh, some people.

Work was boring since my boss has jury duty, but I'm going to orientation tomorrow, so I don't have to go to the office. Of course, the orienting will probably be just as boring, but at least I'll have a change of scenery, even if it means I have to figure out another bus line on MUNI.

It was really hot today. I mean, not crazy hot like a couple weeks ago, but I definitely didn't need my coat, even in the City. Yay! It's like a real summer out there. Of course, that means it's hot at the homestead, but that's okay with me. I've got a fan and a Giants game to make the night nice. Oh and plenty of Otter pops!

August 8, 2006 noise in the hallway
Well, Mom and I got the last of pictures hung in the apartment. Mom took some photos of everything - hopefully, I can get some copies to post so you guys can bask in my productiveness ;) I was totally beat when I got home and really didn't want to hang stuff, but I'm glad it's done.

Work was a little crazy, but fine. I introduced my co-workers to LibraryThing, so they think I'm fabulous - yay! That has now created a project for me to do this month, which is greatly appreciated. I'm sure one of these days I'll be overworked and bitching about it, but for now, I'm glad to have something to do during the day.

Talked to Erin tonight briefly, which was nice. Still a little nervous about meeting the baby (since she wants me to hold him), but I'm sure it'll be fine. My mom assures me that I can't break him at this age, but I dunno. I guess she's taking her chances as much as I am.

one. more. out.
I got off work an hour early since I didn't get a lunch break on Friday and it just changed my whole evening. I actually got some stuff accomplished (pictures hung, errands run) and still had time to relax before it got late. I'm watching the Giants win against the Diamondbacks while eating Otter Pops. All is right with the world (for now).

Weekend was good. Went to the Strawberry Festival in Watsonville on Saturday, which was a little less than we expected, but still fun. Took a detour through Santa Cruz which was just as fabulous as I remembered. Drove home along Hwy 1, which was gorgeous and lovely - and we got to drive along the newly reopened Devil's Slide! Sunday was church in Berkeley (don't ask) and more decorating in the apartment.

I've got K's birthday dinner on Saturday, which I can't wait for! We got to talk briefly at the Giants game last week, but it just wasn't enough since she'd been gone since the beginning of June. I missed my K and I'm glad she's back in town again!!

But They're Aces on Getting Out the Youth Vote!
For whatever reason, this just really cracked me up this morning. I would love to see James Carville take on the LB student government elections - that's appointment television in my book!

August 3, 2006 Rec me - before I go to sleep
Recommend to me:
-a book I should read this summer
-a movie I should add to my NetFlix queue
-a hobby I should attempt
-a quick & easy meal I could make for dinner

Man, oh man. I went to my last Giants game of the season tonight (or at least the last one that I had plans to attend) and they sucked it up royally. We have dropped nine games in a row, eight of which have been to the two worst teams in the National League. Go Giants. Sigh.

Work is fine. Some days are better than others, but that's natural. Today was payday, which felt really good, even if it was only for half a month.

I've been keeping up with a lot of people by email, which has been really nice. Reconnecting with people I haven't talked to in a while (including one I hadn't really talked to since high school graduation!) is always fun.

Grad school preparation is coming along. I'm making notes for my application and trying to do some online searching for good programs. I haven't really done any prep this week, but I'll be carrying my book back with me tomorrow, so I'll be back at it at lunch. Good times.
