April 30, 2006 interview meme, with a twist
I often feel like blogging, but I can't bring myself to type up a large entry of what's really important from the day - especially if the day was spent in pj's in front of the television like a slacker. So, interview me. In the comments, ask me up to five questions. I reserve the right not to answer your questions if they are creepy or too personal for this blog, however, I'm pretty open for the most part. So, go nuts - even if we've known each other for years, I'm sure there are things that you can ask me.
I've got about 3 hours until K comes over to work on our presentation for IGR tomorrow and in that time, I need to finish my response paper (1 of 4-5 pages finished atm) and read the book for my proseminar. We'll see how it goes. As my horoscope for today says: You're in the thick of things, all right. It might feel a little bit like being deep in the jungle. There are mosquitoes, there are monkeys, there are creepy crawly things you don't recognize. You're sweating and a little bit out of your element. Yes, this phase is both unnerving and exciting, so do your best to enjoy the experience and push onward!
Yeah, that sounds about right...

April 29, 2006 week in review
I really had no idea I hadn't blogged in almost a week. Things have been going fast and furious around here and seem to only be getting worse as each hour passes. I am trying to manage the stress as well as I can and the only assurance that I can offer myself is that one way or the other, it's all over in four weeks.
Monday: It's hard to even remember that far back. ECC class. PSSA meeting. Hung out with K, D, and C before the graduation meeting. Planning for graduation after the meeting ended. Dinner with K and D, since I didn't have my proseminar. Had a maragarita with dinner, but it did nothing to help me feel better in class. Got home in time for The Daily Show, original run.
Tuesday: PSSA board applicant interviews. Job interview. Gilmore Girls and Scrubs. Fairly quiet evening after long, arduous day of interviews. Realize too late that I missed free scoop day at Ben & Jerry's!
Wednesday: Woke up early to meet with C. Feel sick all morning - nausea and dizziness. Talked to KB on the phone while waiting for C. Meet with K and D and C. End up falling asleep and missing ECC class. Feel like an idiot. Studying and writing paper. Internship class. Working at school on papers and burning music, waiting for the basketball game to start. Boys have their spirit broken and lose game. Have excruitiating pain on the way home from game, taking D home and wanting to die.
Yesterday: Woke up late and decided to skip my scheduled activities to get work done at home. Exchange emails with C, who suggests interesting option for the future. Get call from G, to see if I want to see Depeche Mode in concert that night. Go to concert with G - where they don't play "Just Can't Get Enough!" Finally get home for Daily Show rebroadcast. Fall into bed around 2am.
Today: Got up early and had K pick me up. Went on various errands for PS graduation. Class. Take MUNI home for first time all semester. Walk home from MUNI station. Run out to Borders to get book for Monday's class. Knitting. Dinner. Knitting. Blog.
That catches you up - sort of. There is way too much going on to really give you the full idea. Just know that I'm on the edge of breakdown, pretty much all the time. I have cried at least once every day this week. Lots of work to be done.

April 23, 2006 too short!
It was so awesome to have Jen here for a couple of days, to chat about random stuff and just generally have way too much fun! It was a whirlwind trip, from which I'm sure we are both still recovering, but I think we both had a great time, exploring the city.
On Thursday, I picked her up from the airport (and scored free parking) and we headed into the city. We went to pick up her car from Enterprise (which really is an entry unto itself) and walked across to State so she could see the campus and I could pick up some library books I forgot the day before. We dropped my car off at my apartment because she wanted to get used to driving in the city. We had lunch at In-N-Out Burger before heading to the Golden Gate bridge. We stopped at the Marin viewpoint as well as the Marin headlands. I stupidly forgot my Fastrak in my car, but luckily she had cash to get through the toll. We stopped off at the Palace of Fine Arts (my favorite place!) where we were interviewed by Academy of Art students and almost accosted by swans. From there, we headed up to Alamo Square Park so she could see the Full House house. We drove down through Cow Hollow and then up to drive down Lombard Street (which she loved!). After many photos, we headed up to Coit Tower for more photos and gorgeous views. When the sun is out, you've got to hit all the viewpoints ;) Despite the wind that was whipping off the Bay, we went to Pier 39 and watched the sea lions before walking down Fisherman's Wharf to Ghirardeli Square and back. Huge baseball fan that she is, no tour of the city would be complete without driving down the Embarcadero past PacBell/SBC/AT&T park. We headed back into town and past Union Square before stopping off at Jamba Juice in the Castro. We made it back to my apartment to chill for a bit before going up to Twin Peaks to take photos of the city with its lights on. We had dinner in West Portal before calling it a night.
Friday morning, I woke up a little late, but we managed to squeeze in quite a bit. We drove to Chinatown and dropped the car. We walked down to pick up the California cable car and rode it to the end at Van Ness. We took a break at Starbucks before grabbing a cable car and riding it back to the other end at Market. We walked back up to the car and drove across the city to the Presidio. I pointed out the place where the PS graduation will be held as well as the place where K and I wish it were being held ;) We stopped near Baker Beach for another GGB photo op and again at the Legion of Honor. From there, we took a driving tour of the Park before running through the Haight. We drove along the edge of the Park to Great Highway and past Ocean Beach before heading back to my house. She had a little time to chill before going to meet a friend at his work and heading to an A's game. Next time she comes, we're going to a Giants game - no worries!
It was a short trip and thoroughly exhausting, but she saw a lot and I hope had fun as well.

too busy having fun with Jen for a real update, so I leave you with this quiz
| You Are 60% Girly |
You're a little girly, a little boyish, and probably a whole lot indie. You have your own unique style, and it pretty much defies gender lines. |

April 20, 2006 I Stand Corrected!
Congratulations to Team PSSA for dominating tonight and clinching a spot in the playoffs! Special props goes out to A, who was like a whole new player, going 5 for 6 during the game. It was great to watch and see us get our drive and spirit back. Great job!
It was a beautiful sunny day with nary a cloud in the sky and a light breeze to keep us from getting too hot. I love days like that! It just makes everything else seem okay. I got to talk to KB for quite a bit this afternoon, while I did some work in the sunshine. We've discovered a new obsession that we share, so I have a feeling that the phone lines will be lighting up in the next few weeks.
Jen is coming in tomorrow morning, so I'm frantically trying to clean up and get things ready for her. I've also got to get up early tomorrow to pick her up from Oakland, so I guess I should get ready for bed. Overall, it's been a great day ;)

I think I may have broken my body.
Lots going on, but really nothing enough to tell. It was beautiful here today and I had a chance to go for a run between classes. I made it further in my run/walk pattern than ever before, but now I've got not only hip pain by knee pain as well. I think my body may be rebelling against me.
Classes went pretty well. I could have used a break in Prof C's class, but as he reminded me, it could have been a lot worse. Only one class on Wednesday and the game is late, so I've got lots of time to catch up this week. It feels like it's already been a week even though it's only been a day. I guess stress will do that to you.
There is just not enough time and too many papers to write. Sigh - the life of a student!

April 17, 2006 cop out update
I should be reading, but for whatever reason, I just cannot get into this stupid book. I will finish it (and the reading for Prof C's class) before I go to bed! This is my promise to myself. For the first time in a while, I am going to finish both readings before I set foot on campus.
I have a feeling that tomorrow is going to be hectic and I'm going to need all my concentration on getting through it. The good news is that I can have as much caffeine as I can possibly handle since Lent is over! Christ is Risen, whoohoo - and He wants me to have a latte for breakfast ;)

April 15, 2006 a day late
fill-it-in:- Oh my aching head. I think I slept in too much this afternoon.
- I'm addicted to southwest-style chicken strips with melted cheese and Hidden Valley Ranch dressing in a whole wheat tortilla.
- This week I discovered a lot of things about people close to me that I never would have guessed.
- I don't understand things always take longer than you plan for them to unless you are enjoying them and then they go by totally fast.
- Duplicity makes my blood boil.
- I should have set an alarm to get up this morning so I could be more of a productive citizen.
- WooooEeeeee, this weekend it's all about research papers!
Yesterday went pretty well, all things considered. The PSSA board meeting was productive as was lunch. I didn't actually go running like I planned, but I hung out with A and D until almost 7pm last night, so I guess that's just as good. Here's hoping the good weather holds out until Monday at least.

April 13, 2006 it was a moral victory, right?
I have to hand it to our intramural basketball team. When they started playing tonight, I thought for sure it was going to be a repeat of last game's blowout, when we were down 16-0 with six minutes to go in the first half. But C subbed in and the team just changed. We put 8 points on the board before halftime and were a totally different team in the second half. While there were still some errors (sometimes giant!), we ended up losing by only 2, 34-32. Though C would disagree, this was a win for us even though we lost. The team really needed to shake off that last game and feel that they could put points on the board.
The rest of the day was just great as well. Plenty of time with my friends and good classes. Even got to take a couple quick naps which is always nice. It poured most of the day, which sucked because I couldn't go running (I'm not really that hardcore), but it was probably better to just hang out during my break anyway.
Oh and I finally got my contest paper turned in today, so that is finally over and done with. K turned hers in today as well - she's going to win, but that's okay because when she does, she's taking me to dinner ;)

April 12, 2006 "You stay classy, San Diego!"
Like last August, I'm watching elections results late into the night, this time for CA-50, Duke Cunningham's former district. Francine Busby, the Democratic front runner, is currently ahead, though with less than a majority of the vote at this time. The top three as of 10:04pm: Counted: 296 of 445 precincts – 66.5 percent FRANCINE BUSBY (D) 45963 43.28% BRIAN P. BILBRAY (R) 16268 15.32% ERIC ROACH (R) 15197 14.31%
It was raining up here today, but hopefully we'll get some sunshine tomorrow. Basketball is back on after a two week hiatus, so hopefully the team is pumped and ready to go! It's a full day of classes, dinner and basketball, but I think it'll be a good day anyway ;)

April 11, 2006 smitey, smitey!
What a horrible Monday that only went slightly better than expected! I didn't get to bed until after 4am and I was up again at 9 - not so good when I've been getting 10-12 hours of sleep a night during spring break.
I got feedback from Prof C about my paper and rushed home on my break to make the changes and print out the final copy. I got back to school just in time for the grad meeting and then I found out that I have until Friday to submit for the contest! Argh!
Classes went okay, but I was a zombie most of the day. Why oh why did I think that giving up caffeine for Lent was a good idea?!

April 10, 2006 "Thanks, Boss"
If you haven't seen the latest episode of The West Wing or have been under a rock since December 16, 2005, hit the back button. I'll wait.
I knew it was coming. Even if I couldn't have predicted it from the moment I learned of John Spencer's death in December, the trailer for this episode running on NBC gave it away. And yet, when I watched Kristin/Annabeth's tear-streaked face as she spoke the words that officially killed off our beloved Leo, I started crying. And I just couldn't stop. It was horrible when Mrs. Landingham died, taken away unexpectedly when we were just starting out, loving her for being the only one who could take Jed Bartlett in a verbal sparring match. But this - this I knew about, knew it was coming and somehow that made it that much harder.
John Spencer was a gifted actor who brought to life a character that I never knew how much I loved until he wasn't there anymore. Leo kept the White House together and then he kept the Santos campaign together. Next week's going to be a sobfest at my house. Bring tissues.

April 8, 2006 beginning of the end
fill-it-in:- Where oh where did I put my productivity, so lacking over this week of no class and abundant free time!
- I'd rather be somewhere warm and sunny, without the sound of pouring rain outside my window.
- My hair needs to be cut, but I have yet to find an adequate stylist and so it remains as it is now.
- This week has been a blessing and a curse, with good weather and bad.
- I'm such a slacker, I really need to read for class and get some drafts of papers written.
- Just for me, next week I'm going to try to go running on both Monday and Wednesday, provided it isn't raining during my break.
- Oh boy! This weekend should be stressful as I try to cram as much academic work in as I possibly can.
It's the last weekend of Spring Break and I can't believe it's here already. I was just getting settled into sleeping in and doing nothing all day long. I guess it's better to be a productive member of society since there's nothing good to watch on television during the day anyway. But still...it's just not quite a long enough break for me.

April 6, 2006 doing my thang
It was sunny again today! Two sunny days in a row! Excuse me while I do a happy dance ;)
I actually took advantage of the weather today and went running around the lake behind school. My calves were still sore, but I pushed through. For the first 2.5 miles, I was able to run for one song and walk for one song. But then the last two miles are all uphill and I was tuckered, so I walked the rest. But it's progress!
So, I have fourteen songs on my workout mix as follows:- Atomic (Blondie)
- Song for the Lonely (Cher)
- I Turn To You [Hex Hector Radio Mix] (Melanie C)
- Perfect Day (Hoku)
- Do Your Thang (Basement Jaxx)
- Bodyrock (Moby)
- Eye of the Tiger (Survivor)
- I Wanna Be Bad (Willa Ford)
- Move Your Body (Eiffel 65)
- Poison (Bel Biv DeVoe)
- Kick Some Ass (Stroke 9)
- Starry Eyed Surprise (Paul Oakenfold)
- Baddest Ruffest (Backyard Dog)
- Higher Ground (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
But my mix is not long enough for me to get all the way around the lake. So what would you recommend I add? What's your workout anthem?

ringing off the hook
Man, today was the day of phone calls. First KB, then my cousin Julie and then M when I was in the car.
We had sunshine today (totally unexpected!), but since I didn't know it was going to be nice, I didn't really enjoy it the way I should. It's supposed to be the same tomorrow, so hopefully I can run the lake. My calves are still a bit sore from Monday's run, but I'm hoping to toughen them up.
I'm happy that Katie Couric took the CBS evening news job - just another reason not to watch CBS. I don't know why - I truly can't explain it - but she really annoys me. Something about being happy that early in the morning every single day - just not good. I would love to make a morning talk show for people who hate mornings called "Shut The Hell Up And Drink Your Coffee" that would be filmed the night before so no one would have to get up early to make the show. Well, it was funny when KB and I were chatting about it.
There are now less days of spring break ahead as behind me, which is really sad. Especially since I have accomplished nothing academic and barely any of my non-academic goals. But at least I'm not stuck on a jury like my friend K - poor girl!

April 2, 2006 a brief respite
We had sun yesterday! I know, I was surprised too ;) I did some shopping, some driving and some overall enjoying life yesterday. It's amazing how those few hours really changed my mood and overall demeanor.
It's back to drizzling today, but I don't care so much. At least now, I don't have any excuses not to start going through the 30 library books that have piled up on my floor to figure what is going to be useful and what isn't. There is much school to be done and rainy days are as good as any to do it.
