November 1, 2007 All About the New Job (TT #11)
I thought about doing my favorite movies to catch on cable (probably coming next week) or my favorite moments on The Office (an easy fallback), but I figured since my first week at the new job is almost over, it would make a good subject.
13 Things About My New Job- Two of the three people I work with have names that start with B. Makes it hard to figure out blog nicknames - I'm workin' on it.
- The cabinet under my desk that I thought was a safe, actually houses the extra plates and napkins for the department. Yeah, I thought I was all badass with a safe under my desk - oh well!
- I got 100% on 4 of my 5 training modules yesterday. So, I'm a little badass ;)
- I still don't have an email address. Okay, I do have one, but it hasn't been set up on my computer yet. Fingers crossed for tomorrow!
- My boss said she likes what I've been doing so far. She mentioned that she knows there's a huge learning curve, but I've been doing well.
- I live close enough to work to come home for lunch every day. It probably doesn't save me any money, but there's something comforting about hanging out on the couch during lunch and watching tv.
- Even without an email address, I was super busy today. I have a feeling that this is going to be very different from my UCSF job.
- We average about 4 pieces of mail per drop. Another huge difference from my last job - where we got about 2 tubs full per drop.
- One of the faculty from my old department came to speak here last month, but I totally missed it. It's okay though - it wasn't one of my favorite faculty members anyway ;)
- I brought my photo frames with me today, so I've personalized my workspace a bit. Now I have my family and my two cuddlebugs (Payton and Maxson, if you are playing at home) smiling at me while I work.
- Today, I convinced the IT guy to install Firefox on my computer. I really hate IE and I haven't used Netscape since the mid-90s. I can't update the Flash plug-in, so it may not be as useful as I'd like, but I got it!
- I'm still working up the courage to bring in my silly mug.
- I learned today that New Jersey has 1 lawyer for every 5.1 people. Nothing more to say about that ;)
